This very rare 1984 vintage of Yamazaki Single Malt was bottled to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Yamazaki Single Malt Whisky, and since then it's won all kinds of acclaim, the latest being a Gold Medal at the International Spirits Challenge and being named World's Best Single Malt Whisky at the 2011 World Whisky Awards. The secret is the proportion of spirit aged in native Japanese 'Mizunara' oak casks as well as the American and European ones, apparently.
